Earthquake
On Friday, March 28, 2025, a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck central Myanmar near Mandalay, causing widespread devastation across the region, including neighboring Thailand. In Myanmar, the death toll has surpassed 1,600, with thousands injured and many more missing. Significant damage occurred in Mandalay, where buildings collapsed, bridges were destroyed, and roads buckled. The Red Cross described the event as the worst devastation seen in Asia in over a century.
The disaster has prompted a significant international response, with aid and rescue teams arriving from countries including China, India, and Malaysia. Efforts are underway to provide medical assistance, search for survivors, and support recovery operations.
